Self-Certification Pilot Program for Licensed Architects

On April 22, 2025, Mayor Karen Bass issued Emergency Executive Order No. 6 to accelerate the permit review for rebuilding projects in areas that were destroyed in the January 2025 Wildfires, requiring the Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) to establish a plan check Self-Certification Pilot Program.

 

On June 9, 2025, LADBS will begin accepting applications for Self-Certified Architects.

Self-Certification Pilot Program Implementation Guidelines

As directed by EEO6, guidelines on the implementation of the order related to self-certification for architects have been issued. Refer to the link below for more information:

 

 

You may enroll with the online Self-Certification Application or in person with the application form at 221 N. Figueroa St, 7th Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90012 between the hours of 7:30 am to 9:30 am.

 

The following are required to enroll in the program.

 

  • Proof of professional architectural licensure in the State of California
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of ICC Certification under the California Residential Code Self-Certification Program
  • Registration fee
  • Certificate of Good Conduct
