Taalman Architecture / IT House, Inc.

Taalman Architecture and IT House have been building in Los Angeles and California for over 2 decades. Research and development into new building systems and ways of building is at the core of our work, as is the goal of reducing our carbon footprint. Taalman Architecture is a small team of talented architects and designers who strive to make architecture more accessible to a wide range of inhabitants and meet people where they are economically, culturally and in terms of their overall vision and goals. IT House facilitates the manufacture of building components to improve the overall process of construction and raise the quality of our buildings and their technologies.

The IT Court is a new take on a classic courtyard plan. Living spaces and bedrooms wrap around a 320sf central courtyard offering private exterior space for a range of site conditions and providing ample amounts of natural daylighting through various times of the day. Large sliding glass doors connect interior living and sleeping areas to outdoor living rooms, increasing the usable area of the house. Large roof overhangs extend beyond the perimeter of the house giving the house a mid-century aesthetic and offering passive heating and cooling using natural ventilation and solar gains. In many ways the IT court was designed in homage to the California mid-century modernist ideals of indoor/outdoor living, small footprints and efficient structures. However we build today with a much higher level of integration when it comes to technology and we are looking at these buildings holistically to create a well designed passive building incorporating technology for our time and climate that still upholds these ideals.
